There are many treatment approaches to relieve anxiety and stress. My primary approaches are using craniosacral therapy and acupuncture, together with mindfulness practices. I find these treatments extremely helpful for treating anxiety.
Acupuncture and craniosacral therapy get immediate results, taking someone out of a stressful state. Often, that peaceful state that the treatment induces can last a week or longer, depending on life’s stressors. This is why I also recommend mindfulness practices, so you have a tool to change your stress when you are on your own.
Mindfulness practices can take a little time to learn. Once you have practiced several times, you start to feel the effects of your practice. The practices build on themselves, so the more you practice, the more peaceful you feel each time you practice.
Craniosacral Therapy
CranioSacral Therapy (CST) is a gentle, hands-on approach that releases tensions deep in the body to relieve pain and dysfunction and improve whole body health and performance. It is a non-invasive, hands-on therapy that aims to enhance the body’s own healing capabilities. According to the Upledger Institute, CST uses a touch of under 5 grams to release restrictions in the craniosacral system to improve the functioning of the central nervous system. This light touch is said to affect the pressure and circulation of cerebrospinal fluid, which is the fluid around the brain and spinal cord. This process is thought to relieve pain and dysfunction. Acupuncture
The application of Acupuncture needles, placed at strategic points along these meridians, restores the flow of energy. Moxabustion is the heating of the herb Ai Ye over the skin, which penetrates deeply to warm and move energy. The Herbs are very powerful medicines, showing by perfect example how to live in harmony with nature. Each of these treatments allows the nourishing forces of Chi to move freely so the body may begin to heal itself. Learn more …
Additional examples of mindfulness practices include meditation, breathing exercises, yoga, tai ji, and qi gong.
Tai Ji Summertime Classes
My personal approach for stress and anxiety is spending time in the woods, and a regular Tai Ji practice. For me, this is the ticket to keep the stress out of stressors. If you are interested in learning Tai Ji, I will be offering beginner level Tai Ji classes in Troy field, in person, Tuesday mornings from 9-10 AM. Classes start May 26, and will last through the summer.
