Local Latina artists will be showing their art at the beloved Hawthorn Healing Arts Center on Friday November 2nd.  This is the actual Day of the Dead where people remember their loved ones. November 1st is the is the first day that people remember the babies and children who have passed on.  This is a joyful remembrance of our ancestors’ favorite foods, drinks and music. Mexican Folklórico and Lyrical Dancing will be presented by Mayra Stearns, a local Latina who inspires others through her love of dance in our school communities.  She weaves storytelling in her Lila Downs version of La Llorona, the Weeping Woman.  Come see the magic!
Angela Saavedra was inspired to paint calaveras, skulls, after an adventure with Judy Fuentes Day of the Dead session three years ago. It has given her an outlet to express and process the losses she has experienced. Each painting was inspired either by a loss in her own or in a loved ones life.
Renee Sanchez is inspired by lines and textures in colorful natural settings. Recently, a trip to Mexico surrounded her with a new Tree of Life, an Honoring of the Feminine. She explores Joy, loss, renewal and transformation.
